Who is she? Hi! I’m Joy, a healthcare writer, medical editor, and content operations partner with a decade of experience in content development and 6-7 years specializing in health communication materials and resources. I’ve worked on projects such as developing sexual health platforms and creating manuals and guidelines for adolescents. I also get excited about creating mock workshops: I accidentally developed and moderated a virtual gut health workshop. In my defense… I got really obsessed with microbiomes one summer. Let’s move on!
I also have a passion for tools—especially project management tools—so much so that I created a rating system that I share with friends and clients (only when asked).
Originally, I intended this newsletter to focus on rating content management systems (CMS) and project management tools (PM), but it naturally evolved into writing about health communication with a touch of project management.
RIP RATE MY CMS! You will be missed ☹

What is tales & tools?
What is tales & tools? 🤔
A monthly newsletter dedicated to sharing the insights and experience of a novice health communication developer with a background in marketing, content development, and project management. The goal of "Tales & Tools" is not only to share my journey but also to highlight the experiences of individuals in the field—the humans behind the health content. You'll hear stories from health content developers and clients, some advice for newbies and clinicians, and, of course, some relatable memes. And who knows, we might even rate some CMS and PM tools (just kidding).
Why health communication, why tools: Health communication is about sharing information to improve quality of life. It connects patient advocates, health experts, community members, and writers. I’m passionate about health communications and want to share my recommendations for tools and platforms.
The newsletter will be broken into three sections:
tales and tools: Sharing my experiences with clients, and the strategies and tools I use as a health communication developer.
trial & error: Interview with health communicators and those who work within health communicators, like admin, marketers, influencers, and more.
night shift: Focused on helping clinicians, holistic solopreneurs, and organizations find the best tools that work for them—basically a guide.
My hope: That you, the reader, learns about the amazing world of health communications and the people and tools that make them go round.
Coming up: A post about the importance of creating strategic and process plans with clients and my disdain for one project management tool. Not you, Airtable, you’ve done nothing wrong.
